About To Better Understand, Inc.

Since children are increasingly self-identifying at earlier ages now, this raises their risk of victimization and other health concerns that could affect their development in the long run. In the context of families, cultures, and faith organizations, we offer various initiatives to prevent health and mental health dangers for LGBTQ+ youth and adults. We assist those who identify within the community and educate families, friends, and co-workers from all backgrounds on how to support those who identify within the LGBTQ+ community with our three core values: education, research, and advocacy.

 

To Better Understand believes in the power of understanding. To Better Understand provides a better understanding of the LGBTQ+ community through education, research, and advocacy. The importance of parents in the lives of children and adolescents is undeniable:

• Starting at birth 

• Continuing through childhood and even into young adulthood 

• Influencing all relationships outside of those with their parents 

• Shaping the individual's sense of self-worth

But this doesn't just stop at parents. Friends, colleagues, and additional individuals also play a massive role in the power of understanding, and they are just as important. Our goal is to explain how parents, friends, and even colleagues have such an imperative impact and influence on their roles in a child's discovery of sexuality and/or gender identity. To Better Understand is the only non-profit that looks to focus on family and friends of LGBTQ-identified individuals to provide better conditions (physical, mental, emotional) for these individuals.

Our mission is to leverage the power of data to enhance understanding and advocacy for this diverse community. Through rigorous research and informed education, we aim to drive positive change, foster inclusivity, and create a platform for voices often unheard.

Our approach is a blend of science and humanity. We utilize rigorous research methodologies and cutting-edge data science techniques to extract, interpret, and communicate meaningful insights about the LGBTQ+ community. Our emphasis on informed education allows us to disseminate these insights in an accessible manner to a broad audience, fostering greater understanding and empathy.
